Open Doors Outdoors mission is to take Veterans, their families and young people into the outdoors for reconnection, healthy activity and healing!
Veterans are more likely to experience trauma during their time in service than the average civilian. Whether serving state-side or abroad, our Veterans can experience situations that can be catastrophic to their physical and mental well-being. Events like these can be easily hidden and accepted as normal in the military environment, surrounded by other servicemen and women. However, upon discharge from their time in service, they may find themselves isolated in a world they were once comfortable in as civilians but one that is no longer home.
Many Veterans will long for the camaraderie, structure, and sense of purpose the military life provided. By participating in ODO’s outdoor adventures, each participant will be experiencing the outdoors and its healing influences with other Veterans. They will be a part of structured outings that require following set guidelines to ensure the safety of all and successful completion of each adventure. Upon the completion of any given adventure the Veteran will have a renewed sense of accomplishment. All these outcomes will lead to a physically and mentally healthier individual.
